Once again the staff of TheTwoCents is here to share our love for the decade ending this year. Yesterday we revealed our favorite television programs of the decade and today we focus on the characters that made television fun from 2000-2009.

The rules were simple, the character had to have appeared on TV for the majority in this decade and they had to be your favorite.

So, we now share our 10 favorite characters on TV. What are yours? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

starbuck

#10 – Captain Kara ‘Starbuck’ Thrace
Battlestar Galactica
Katee Sackhoff (Interview)
2004-2009

I could list a hundred things about Kara Thrace that I adore: Her bold attitude and her trashy mouth; her desperate fear of being abandoned or forgotten; the fact that she really is as awesome as she says she is; her devotion and her unconventional way of doing things. But ultimately, it’s the way she bridges the gender gap that makes me love her. Nearing the end of season one, I had already picked her out as my favorite among a cast of favorites, but at that moment in “Kobol’s Last Gleaming” when she punched Lee and he snapped right back around to hit her just as hard – no hesitation, no apology – the Holy Chorus of Televisual Gender Equality sang out and rejoiced. Thank you Ron Moore and Katee Sackhoff for letting Starbuck be just as good as (if not better) than the boys and thank you for never making an issue of her gender and thank you for letting her be a character study of giant, damaged, scary proportions. She frakking rocks!

TTC’s Staff’s Favorite Shows Of The Decade

It’s hard to believe, but come Jan 1, the first decade of this century will be over. I still have my Y2K emergency box in the house. My oh my how time flies.

To celebrate the great television of this decade, the staff here at TheTwoCents was asked to submit their favorite television shows of the decade. It was a simple criteria: the show had to run mostly in the years 2000-2009 and you had to really like it. Just that easy.

These may not be the most award winning programs, they may not be the critically acclaimed best, but these are the shows that are our favorites. We hope you’ll join in the conversation and share your TwoCents on what shows we missed or what some of your favorites were in this decade down in the comments. Need some help finding shows that did air during this time? Thanks to reader Katie O, you can check out this list!

And here it is, TTC’s Favorite Shows of the Aughts!

pushing daisies

#10 – Pushing Daisies
2007-2009
ABC

Starring Cast: Lee Pace, Anna Friel, Chi McBride, Ellen Greene, Swoosie Kurtz and Kristin Chenoweth.

Sometimes I think series creator Bryan Fuller looked into my brain to discover exactly what I wanted in a TV series. Romance? Check. Fantasy? Check? A few musical numbers? Check. Great writing and characters? Double check. Interestingly enough, “Pushing Daisies” doesn’t sound that good on paper: Ned the Pie Baker has the ability to bring someone back to life with the touch of his finger, but if they stay alive for more than a minute, someone else dies. And a second touch means death forever. Trouble is, he’s brought his childhood sweetheart, Chuck, back to life and can never touch her again. Together with detective Emerson Cod, they find Ned’s gift is great for solving murders because they can ask the corpse who did the deed. And in between mysteries, we enjoy the tangled plot of love, loss and honeybees. With a visual style that pops off the screen, an amazing cast and lots of Emmy love (third most nominated show in its short first season – thanks Writer’s Strike), how did this show get canceled after only 26 episodes?

TTC: At the end of the day, what do you think is Sue’s real problem with the glee club?

Wow. That’s my one word review right there. Reactions to this episode seem to be all over the map and some have said this episode bored them, but luckily for you guys, I was not one of them. I fell into the opposite end of the spectrum. I was hooked through the whole thing. Even the part of me that thinks Reid has been through enough torture, thank you very much, wasn’t bothered by what happened to him. Well, I was bothered, but in the way that I should be, not in the ‘I’m going to start throwing things at my screen if they don’t stop heaping on the Reid angst’ way.
