Do Not Go Gentle. Wherein Alaric makes questionable choices, Klaus can’t identify his favorite sibling, and Stefan, Damon, and Elena are on The Bachelorette, according to Caroline.
Esther-as-Rebekah waltzes into Klaus’ house with the stake in her hands. Klaus burns the stake and agrees to go to the dance when his “sister” cajoles him into it. Later Esther gloats over her ability to lie to her child once Other!Ric has done the same to Damon, acting as the real Ric and telling the vampire he’s going to go out of town for a bit. Alaric stabs Rebekah’s body with the magic dagger at Esther’s behest and thus Esther is back in her own body. Ta-da!

Heart of Darkness. Wherein new relationships are tried out, old are stressed, and people make out all over the country!
Alaric is being kept in the dungeon, since they can’t trust him not to kill every vampire in sight. It’s Stefan’s job to wheedle the location of the white oak stake out of him while Damon and Elena go on a road trip to check on Jeremy and resolve—one way or another—their sexual tension.

The Murder of One. Wherein THE PLOT FINALLY THICKENS. And if that’s not enough to excite you get yourself tested for humanity.
Damon is being all sketchy in Alaric’s doorway as Elena tries to intrude on Ric’s morning. It turns out that the boys and Ric are sharpening their pitchforks (so to speak) so they can go on an Original killing spree. Stefan and Damon have no respect for anybody else’s autonomy which they demonstrate by forcing Alaric’s ring back on his finger after shutting down his plan to turn himself in to the sheriff.

All My Children. Wherein Elena is angry at Damon (go figure), the brothers bond a bit, and Esther sets out to murder her family. Just a normal day in Mystic Falls.
I’m not sure if we’ve established this or not, but Elena obviously has absolutely no clue what she’s doing to/with these brothers. She calls Stefan, gets no answer, calls Damon, and doesn’t get the answer she wants. She broke his heart for the…thousandth or so time last episode and now she’s catty when he’s grumpy at her.

Dangerous Liaisons. Wherein everybody gets dressed up snazzy-like to party (again), Esther makes an interesting mother, and both Triangles (i.e. Elena’s and Caroline’s) get great screen time.
Elena, Stefan, and Damon are having a kitchen planning session a la season two over all the beans Elijah’s spilled when they hear a knock on the door. By the time Elena makes it to the door, the knocker has left only a calligraphy-ridden invitation to the Originals’ ball on the porch. On the back is a personal note from Esther requesting a meeting with Elena. Our three darlings argue over who is and who isn’t going to go to dancing and of course the boys decide that Elena is not. We all know how well that’s going to go for them.

Bringing Out the Dead. Wherein Elijah is awesome because that’s what he does, Meredith looks ever more suspicious, and Damon and Stefan have brotherly issues because that’s what they do.
Elijah has a bone to pick with Klaus, which is valid. Their brawl ends with Klaus confessing that he’s ready to confess some of his secrets, starting, apparently, with the fact that he killed Mummy. Continue reading

The Ties that Bind. Wherein Bonnie gets a backstory and a road trip, Tyler gets fixed (punny, punny), Klaus maintains the same level of scary as always, relationships in The Triangle shift, and MAX AMAZINGNESS LEVELS ARE REACHED, albeit briefly.
(Sorry about the slight delay, guys. Had some technical trouble. But without further ado!)
Bonnie dreamscapes never get old. First she’s in the forest, as per usual, looking at the mystery coffin, then she’s in the coffin courtesy of Klaus, and then she’s staring at who is surely the key to unlocking the magically sealed coffin. Witchy dreams are not hard to interpret. Continue reading

Our Town. Wherein Caroline has a birthday, Bonnie is absolutely correct, and Stefan is scarier than Klaus.
It’s an average day in Mystic Falls. Elena wallops a bunching bag and Damon takes a shower. How many times have we seen Damon shower? I do appreciate his attention to personal hygiene but even the word “gratuitous” doesn’t really cover it anymore. Just sayin’. Also, Bonnie is chanting and yelling at inanimate objects, namely a coffin that refuses to give up its secrets, which makes her late for decorating Caroline’s locker. Continue reading
