It was about a year and a half ago when we first learned of a wedding that would involve our main characters. At that point, we didn’t even know who the groom was- though we did know Marshall and Lily were going to try to get pregnant.

Soon, we learned that Barney, of all people, was the groom, and that many things- some tragic- would get in our married couple’s way. But it’s the end of season 7 now, and a baby and a bride are both waiting to meet us.

One thing I don’t like about HIMYM is the fact that they air so many new episodes in a row early in the season. Why is this a problem? Because it means many gaps between them now, in the final episodes.

Technically, there was only one rerun between this and the last new episode. There will also be just one week off before the hour-long season finale. But did they really have to end this episode on a cliffhanger, albeit a predictable one?

I always like episodes of the show where everyone gets something to do. Here, we see Ted happy, Barney acting happy, Robin realizing her dreams, and Lily and Marshall…in a kind of awkward situation.

You’ll remember that Ted gave Marshall and Lily his apartment and moved into Quinn’s old place. Now he’s living alone and it’s actually pretty awesome. Try telling Barney that, though. All he cares about is dating a stripper.

The men are the forefront of this week’s HIMYM. Besides confirming their shared love of Star Wars yet again, it takes us back though some of the major events of their lives- both before and after we saw them on screen.

The episode begins with a man stalking Barney from across the street, much to the annoyance of his wife. Why is Barney going outside at the same time every night? To fart where Quinn won’t notice. Aren’t you happy you asked?

In case you’re looking at the title of this episode and wondering just what a “broath” is, never fear. That’s quickly answered as the episode opens with Barney swearing Ted to secrecy over the truth of Quinn’s profession.

See, she’s about to meet the rest of the gang, and he’s worried about how they’d react. As Barney’s bro, Ted takes an oath that he won’t reveal either this or how she’s tricked Barney in the past. Bro + oath = “broath”.

Last week, Robin moved out of Ted’s apartment. It was a pretty big deal, ending any last possibility of a romance between the two. But if you think that’s the biggest move we’ll see this season, this episode proves otherwise.

2012’s been an interesting year. Besides all that drama- which happened right after Kevin and Robin broke up- Barney may just be falling in love. With a stripper. Who treats him like he’s treated other women. Just go with it, I guess?

We get another very brief glimpse of The Mother in this episode of HIMYM. Future Ted recalls the first time he told her he loved her. What brought up this memory? That’d be the events we first saw last week.

By “the events”, I obviously mean Ted telling Robin he loves her right after she and Kevin broke up, and even though we know they can’t wind up together. How do the writers handle that? Pretty well, actually.

It is, of course, time for the gang to celebrate Valentine’s Day. What does that mean? For one thing, it means Barney and Ted hanging out with drunk people on the last train of the night to Long Island.

It does also involve some more traditional themes: double dates, flirting with the potential for more…and perhaps some things you might not expect, and that eventually lead to the departure of a guest star.

After a few weeks away, How I Met Your Mother returned last night for Lily and Marshall’s housewarming party. To celebrate the return, the writers decided to give us something that was, well…

Let’s just say that while most episodes cover the events of several days in 30 minutes, this one took that time to cover a five minute period- and frankly, I could have used about an hour to make sense of it.
