TV time differs from real time. Sometimes a few episodes focus on a few days time and sometimes we leap forward abruptly. Tonight, though Up All Night has only been on about five months, Amy is one year old!

We already know Reagan and Chris aren’t typical parents, and for them, the whole celebration thing isn’t a big deal. Their neighbors, however, disagree. They happily get involved and things go from there…

It starts with just some people from the play group. But it also starts with a disagreement over whether Amy said “mama” or “dada” first. Never fear- soon everyone agrees she’s a genius. Later, the neighbors squirm their way in to an uncomfortable Chris and set up a joint party with their youngest child. Poor Chris also agrees to play matchmaker on the playground- between adults, at least.

At the party, an alarming number of people have shown up, all related to Terry and June, but Ava is more elegantly dressed (read: overdressed) than all of them, with Missy doing overtime in the role of her assistant . She’s also believes she’s Amy’s godmother because Chris conveniently decided not to tell her that she actually isn’t.

Reagan thinks Chris says “yes” too much, and she might have a point. His efforts hooking up parents aren’t going to do much to boost his confidence. Maybe Ava’s present will help? Seeing as it’s a terrifying classical-looking painting, probably not. It winds up over the fireplace because he can’t bring himself to send it far, far away.

The party moves on. Attendees are singing “Happy Birthday” once for both kids and all holding hands. Chris might not be vocal, but he’s increasingly annoyed. While Terry and June start feuding, Chris deals with other parents. Thankfully, Reagan manages to save the party by putting on his chicken suit and acting as entertainment in place of a clown.

All else said, she can take a few lessons from her husband as well. Still, Reagan probably wouldn’t have told Ava she could be Amy’s godmother only to have the truth revealed via a talking birthday card. The parents go to comfort her- because really, she is around more than Amy’s other actual relations. She even changes diapers in fancy dresses.

The party does eventually wear out its welcome, and Chris finally takes over Reagan’s role long enough to get everyone out, settle dating disputes, and not totally ruin relationships with neighbors. That last one might be for a lack of trying, and there’s still a lot of lying going on, but at least everyone’s happy, right?
