This hour raised the all-important question of “what can we handle?” Most people think they can handle anything thrown their way. But how much is too much? How much is not enough.
All of our storylines this evening essentially revolved around that question. And we learned the answers for our beloved doctors is equally more than we think and not as much as we think. And in some cases, it was actually a little bit of both. So let’s go over what went down this hour.
Addison: Addison had the patient of the week, Laurel (played by Six Feet Under’s Tina Holmes), who is pregnant with twins. During her exam, Addison advises that the boy-baby has a diaphragmatic hernia, which is causing his lungs not to develop properly. She could do surgery, but it would be at the risk of the girl-baby. Laurel’s partner, Dani (played by The Bold and The Beautiful’s Ashley Jones), is admant for the surgery, but Laurel is scared. Knowing the risks, Addison can’t advocate for the surgery, but she is confident she could do it. Laurel wavers, and Dani tells her she’d never forgive her if she didn’t try. Laurel agrees to the surgery, Dani comes to her side, and in the end, the successful surgery also revealed the girl-baby had a life threatening amniotic band. So, win-win, Addison (with Jake’s help), saved the day.
But the swoon-worth scene came at the end. Jake let’s Addison know that he could fall in love with her, buy a house together, and have a baby together. But when he’s in, he’s all in, and she’s not ready if she’s still pining over Sam. Addison, in clear adoration and wanting, says could get ready. Jake simply replies “That would be nice.” And all of us viewers feel our knees buckle a little while we catch our breath. Wouldn’t that be nice, indeed. And it seems like #JAddison (#Addisake) is a go!
Sam: Sam is still in denial over the extent of Corrine’s illness. Sheldon repeatedly tries to get him to see that she may require more help, but Sam is sure he can handle it, by taking time off to care for her. Corrine rapidly declines into a manic episode, obsessed with the stars and constellations she used to name for Sam when they were young, and making lunch for the entire office. Her mania increases, and when Sam tries to restrain her, she lashes out and strikes him with a candlestick. He tries to hold her back, and she ends up crashing through his sliding glass door. He takes her to the hospital, where Sheldon suggests in-patient psychiatric care. Sam is still in denial, but as Corrine comes out of sedation still delusional, it seems as though his resolve may be weakening. Hopefully Sam will become receptive before something even worse occurs.
Amelia: Sheldon notices Amelia looks sickly and, more importantly, is hiding something from him. When he confronts her about drugs, she admits that she’s clean… and pregnant. (Congratulations to Caterina Scorsone on her real life pregnancy!) Based on her math (and ours), she approximately 20 weeks pregnant with Ryan’s baby. She didn’t realize it sooner, as her body was still detoxing. She’s unsure if she wants a baby, and also worried about what the drugs may have done to the baby. Sheldon wants her to talk to someone, anyone else, as he can’t deal with it. But, as Sheldon always does, he comes around and promises to be there for her in every way, except crib building. Do you think a romance is still in the cards for these two?
Violet/Pete: Violet realizes that the casual sex with Scott may not be as fulfilling as she thought it would be. She also begins to realize that her feelings for Pete aren’t completely gone. After a family bonding trip to the zoo, Violet is ready to let Pete know. She asks him to try couples therapy. Pete, skeptical of all things involving feelings beyond anger, needs to think about it. Violet tells him that if he wants to work on their family unit, she’s in. And if they do this route, I hope it definitively resolves them, one way or the other. If they can be nice to each other, fine… but the hatred factor needs to be dialed way back, as I am over it.
Coop/Charlotte: Coop is spending every minute taking care of a recovering Erica, to his own exhausted detriment and Charlotte’s chagrin. When she hires a night nurse so he can get some rest (and come home), he bites her head off. His good friend (remember?) Violet advises that he’s so busy tiptoeing around Mason and Erica that he’s taking out his emotions on his wife. So Coop comes home, apologizes, refers to Charlotte as his rock (I said it first!), and the two have some button-ripping make-up sex. I love a healthy couple!
So that’s it for this week. Did you swoon over Jake’s declaration as much as I did? Do you feel for Sam, but want him to face reality? Or you ready for Violet/Pete Part VIII? You’ve got my TwoCents, now share your TwoCents, comments, and feedback below!
And did you catch Amy Brenneman’s live tweet during tonight’s episode? She misses her friendship with Coop too!

I swooned over and over. DVR, kept rewinding and watching again. I have just one word for it “HOT”
Love me some Jake! We all know Addi isn’t ready for a man like Jake. Time and time again, she gets good dudes and some how ruins it. I actually liked it better when he was just working at the hospital and they flirted in the halls and he didn’t have any kind of relationship with the others at the practice. Now it would be just plain weird if they started dating after all that’s happened; especially after the guys have made Jake a part of the group. I’m not sure how I feel about Violet and Pete getting back together because I’m tired of Pete’s attitude. I agree with you…I’m so over his anger and hate.
I think Amelia and Sheldon will wind up together and they’ll raise her baby together. He honestly loves her and she’s honestly changed. I can’t wait to watch her evolved even more!
The bad thing about this Amelia´s baby that we were all hoping that Charlotte would be pregnant, but now it seems unlikely. We need more Charlotte screen time…
Yayyy for Jake and Addison! I swooned big time
Those few scenes with them specially the elevator one were just AHHHH <3
