When you’re a hunter, you’re only as good as the weapons you keep. Aside from having a brother you can trust watching your back, of course.
And through the years the Winchesters have brandished everything from the conventional (modified of course) to the periodic table elements that vanquish whatever evil crosses their path.
Here’s the first five weapons every Supernatural fan shouldn’t be without!
10) EMF Meter
Probably the most frequently used early warning system, the humbled busted up walkman first produced by Dean in Phantom Traveler is an essential part of any hunting arsenal. High readings from an electromagnetic field meter and the high-pitched whine that follows when paranormal activity is nearby gives Sam and Dean enough time to reach for their real weapons to deal with the threat.
9) Iron
The “Cold Iron” theory stipulates that because of the electromagnetic field surrounding supernatural creatures, touching a grounded iron object to the spirit would drain all usable energy from the entity. This belief has carried on to other superstitions, such as surrounding a cemetery with an iron fence to contain the souls of the dead. The Winchesters see nothing wrong with this belief, often employing a handy fireplace poker or even a wrench to ward off malevolent enemies.
8 ) Holy Water
In the Catholic Church, Holy Water is blessed by a priest to bless those who use it against the powers of darkness. Having consumed Holy Water at the grotto of St Bernadette in Lourdes, I can vouch for the fact that it doesn’t taste any different from normal water. It’s a handy weapon to have to splash in the face of someone you think is possessed, as Dean and Sam have done numerous times, or you could go the more subtle route and drip some into whatever drink their having like Bobby. If they start steaming, you know you have a problem.
7) Devil’s Trap
A mystical symbol used to contain and trap demons, its a better circle of entrapment than salt simply because the markings are etched onto the surface. It can also be drawn over entrances to prevent access to a building, room or the boot of the Impala. The devil’s traps used by the Winchesters originate from the Lesser Key of Solomon and come in two forms – the Heptagram or the Pentagram – and have become a standard issue item in the Winchester playbook.
6) Sam’s Scythe
Remember back in the Pilot, when Sam packed that wicked-looking curved blade to take along with him? Well its been seen in the promos but never actually used in the show itself. Which is a shame because that blade looks like it could lop off a vampire’s head better than a machete. Is it too late to bring it back?
